My name is Francois Swanepoel, and I am a certified Medical Orthotist Prosthetist.
Your orthopaedic needs are our top priority. It’s important to know who is leading your rehabilitation journey — and that’s why we’ve added this section to our website.
I was born in Johannesburg in the late 1980s, but just six weeks later, my family relocated to a small farming community in Zululand, KwaZulu-Natal. Luckily, they took me with (tongue in cheek), and it turned out to be the best place to spend my formative years. I completed both primary and secondary schooling in Vryheid, KZN, and always gave my best in everything I did.
After school, with no clear direction, I began studying Law at the University of Pretoria. However, I quickly realized something was missing. After some personal challenges and a lot of reflection, I found my true calling — Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics.
By the grace of God, I was accepted into the program and went on to complete my National Diploma at Tshwane University of Technology. While studying, I worked part-time at a busy Pretoria-based practice, gaining hands-on experience in all areas of the field. I continued there full-time after graduating, and a few years later, I was honored to accept a position as Head Clinical Specialist at Össur South Africa, one of our industry’s leading international suppliers.
During that time, I managed Össur’s academic program for Sub-Saharan Africa and had the opportunity to train clinicians, speak at national congresses, and travel the world. I was exposed to leading experts in Asia, Europe, Scandinavia, and Africa — experiences that deeply shaped my clinical outlook.
In 2019, at the age of 31, I decided to further my studies and completed a Bachelor of Technology in Medical Orthotics and Prosthetics with distinction (Cum Laude). This program sharpened my clinical reasoning and reaffirmed my commitment to evidence-based care.
How did Swanepoel Orthotics and Prosthetics come to be?
I’ve always envisioned a practice that puts quality above quantity — a place where each patient receives personalized, results-driven care. After seeing a variety of clinics both locally and abroad, I was able to implement the best approaches for patient rehabilitation.
With experience across clinical, academic, and corporate sectors, I understand the profession from all angles. My goal is always to treat the whole person — not just the condition — with insight, compassion, and excellence.
In my free time, I enjoy travelling, attending international conferences, and staying up to date with the latest technologies. I’ve completed four Comrades Marathons and believe in the importance of staying active whenever possible.
I look forward to welcoming you to our practice and being a meaningful part of your rehabilitation journey.
